Are you a Bridezilla??

bridezilla

We have all heard the term “Bridezilla”, if you have not heard it one day you will, hopefully it is not someone calling you one.

A bridezilla is a term that is used to describe a bride that is unpleasant, demanding to everyone that is around.  Everyone from the family, to the bridesmaid and friends and vendors are not safe when this bride is around.

Many of us will say, I would never be a bridezilla, however we might have a little in us that we don’t even know about.

A bridezilla will make sure that everything they want they get.  It doesn’t matter who is paying for it or how much it costs, they want it. Bridezillas will take a kind gesture, like having their parents offer to pay for part of the wedding and they take it and run.  Show appreciation to any help that may be offered to you, and spend it wisely. Don’t have the attitude that it is your parents duty to pay for you big extravagant wedding.

Your wedding party, in particular your bridesmaids, are normally your closest friend and family members.  They are there to help you on your big day but do not take advantage of them.  A bridezilla will push relationships to their breaking point by expecting everyone to drop everything for them. Bridezillas seem to have the attitude that you must drop everything for them when they need it, and there are no excuses.  Bridezillas will also drop bridesmaids if they feel their photos are in jeopardy because maybe one the the bridesmaids got pregnant or have gained weight.

A bridezilla will talk about their wedding 24/7.  A conversation will consist of what they are doing and what they still need to do, and what other people are not doing.  During this conversation there will be no talk about anything else.  Any events that may take away from their planning they will not partake in.  However if they have this attitude you may not want them around anyways.

  •

Do you feel you are taking on traits of a Bridezilla, try these tips to steer you away from that direction

  • Show appreciation to any help that may be offered to you, and spend it wisely. Don’t have the attitude that it is your parents duty to pay for you big extravagant wedding.
  • Drama is inevitable when you put women together, however avoid any unnecessary drama by not creating your own.  Embrace any friends who are expecting or may feel overweight.  You may want to look into bridesmaid dresses that will flatter most body types, so maybe not a tight dress on a pregnant friend.
  • Although your bridesmaids are there  for you remember that they have things to do outside your wedding as well. Do not make your wedding a 24/7 thing for them,
  • Stay organized, once you get unorganized you will get frazzled and start putting the blame on others.  Use binders, spreadsheets and check lists to help you keep organized
  • Be realistic when it comes to budget, we all would love a royal wedding but realistically we can’t afford it.  Pick certain items you can cut back on so you can get the items you really want.
  • Have fun with your planning, get people involved including your groom to be.

Looking for something different….rose ceremony?

You will find  that there are many different ceremony ideas that you can bring into your own ceremony.  Wither it be ceremony candle lighting, a unity sand ceremony or a love letter ceremony, each symbolizes love. The candle ceremony is still one of the most popular, however what if you were looking for something a little different.  What about a rose ceremony? Since the rose represents love, respect and passion it has always been one of the most popular wedding flowers.  The good thing about a rose ceremony is you can make it represent what you want it to represent. It doesn't just have to be on the bachelor or bachelorette TV shows..

Ideas

Bride & Groom:  The bride and groom each have a rose and put them together in a small vase to represent unity between two.

Families:  The bride and groom and their parents each have a rose and they are all put together in a vase to represent the unity of two families.  Two colours of roses can me used here to distinguish two families uniting as one.  Incorporate children as well.

Between Couple & Wedding Party: The bride and groom and wedding party each have a rose and are put together in a vase.  Get your party involved!

However you decide to plan your ceremony, make it your own.  If you do not want to use roses, use a flower that is most important to you.  Kits are available that include all the items you will need to make your perfect ceremony.

Social Media And Your Wedding

MC900235293[1]So you are planning your big day and wondering where you should get some information and ideas. Social media uses web based techniques to help people communicate. With the popularity of social media rising, it is no surprise that the following places are great places for brides.

Twitter:

Is a micro blogging place where it’s users can post “tweets” which broadcasts to their “followers”. Brides find this an excellent source not only for themselves to post their thoughts but many popular wedding magazines/websites use twitter as well. Here they will “tweet” about products, ideas etc.

Project Wedding: http://twitter.com/#!/ProjectWedding

Weddingstar Inc:http://twitter.com/#!/WeddingstarInc

Facebook:

Is a social network system where users interact with other users by exchanging messages, photos, status updates etc. Brides can use facebook to their advantage by creating a group or an event to keep their guests up to date on events. Like Twitter wedding magazines and wedding websites use Facebook to promote their website and give you up to date information on new and exciting things.

Wedding Websites:

Are websites where the couple can post pictures, wedding information and other fun things for their guest to look at prior to invitations going out. This is a good way to announce your wedding and let your guests know to save the date. Sites are customizable and most are free with upgrades that you can pay for.

the knot: www.weddings.theknot.com/pwp/pwp_offers.aspx

Blog:

Blogs are used to interact with readers allowing them to leave messages and comments. Brides can use blogs to write about their experiences, ideas, do’s and don’ts they have learned. Using a blog can also let you get a little steam out (try to avoid names of people who are getting under your skin, that just opens a whole other thing). Many sites are free with upgrades that you can pay for. They allow you to also post pictures, so share away!

Wedding Guest Book Idea

Looking for something fun and interactive for your guests?
Traditionally there is always a guest book that guests signs their names to. It normally has lines and you just sign your name as you are walking into the reception. Since some weddings have a little bit of time before the reception you may want to look into this. Getting a Photo Booth. There are photo booths that you can rent for a certain amount of hours. Get your guests to go into the photo booth and then have a blank guest book waiting for them. Have them paste their picture and write you a message. Some photo booth rental companies will come with someone that will guide your guests. You can also add a personalized note near the book with instructions.

Let your guests be funny and crazy, and you will definitely enjoy looking at the pictures and reading the messages.

Enjoy!

My Invitation Business

I have officially had my own business since August 2009 and it has really picked up this year. I have to say I really enjoy having my own business and being able to help couples with their invitations. It has become quite funny that I get really excited when I go into a paper store or a supplier and see all the different colours and textures. There are so many to choose from.

What I have noticed for this year is Pocketfolds will remain quite popular. I say spend the extra little money and get them as there are so many shapes and colours and designs that can be done. Most important it is much easier for your guests, they can have everything tucked away and not loose directions or reception details or the reply card.

Other trends that carry on this year is jewels and ribbon. Having a Jewel or your names or on the cover of the pocketfold adds an added elegance to your invitation, and try adding it with some ribbon.

Popular colours this year White, Brown, Black. With my invitation orders these are the most commonly requested. Adding a second accent colour will add a little punch of colour with any of these 3 colours.

Well I look forward to the rest of this year, and can't wait to get more clients and help them out. I love hearing the colour schemes that brides and grooms are doing. It is crazy to see how personalized weddings are becoming. I think it's great because there are so many weddings now and gives your guests a little change in scenery.

Good luck to all the brides of 2010. Here is to a great rest of the year!

Invitation Added Touches

Usually invitations should take up 2% of your whole wedding budget.  Before deciding on your invitations have a budget number ready.  With so many options to add to your invitations you may end up going over your budget.  If you know you really want your invitations to be a big part of your wedding theme you may want to up your budget to make your wedding invitations a little higher ends.

Pocket folders are a great way to steer form a traditional panel invitation and add a little more to your invitation.  The Pocket folder will house all your inserts and your invitation.  This is a great option for your guests so stuff is all in one spot for them and less chance of being lost.  Invitation Designers may charge a little extra for you to upgrade, however it will definitely spice up your invitations.

Think about adding some Ribbon to your invitations.  The ribbon adds some elegance and can turn a dull invitation to a more formal invitation.  Since ribbon come in many colours, you will be able to really be creative.

Metallic invitations are quite popular.  Although they usually costs more to upgrade your invitations to this, it will definitely add elegance to your invitations.  If you are looking for elegance this is an upgrade you will definitely want to do.

Remember when picking your invitations have an idea of what you want.  There are many sites out there where you can get invitations at low prices, however you may want to look into the quality of paper as well some may lack the creative freedom you may want.  If you want something simple there are many good sites that offer stock invitations where you just fill in your information and it is already designed for you.  There is the option to also do them yourself.  If you are thinking about doing it yourself, do your research on materials you may need etc.  You don’t want to have to keep buying stuff because the original items purchased did not work.

Custom invitations normally start at $5.00/invitation and can go up to $10.00/invitation plus depending on the designer and the style.  Remember that your invitation is your guests first impression of what they will see at on your big day.  Make them memorable no matter if a designer makes them or you make them yourself.

Save The Date Cards???

There is always the question, Do I really need to send out Save the Date Cards.  Is there a clear answer? No.  A Save The Date Card is still a nice thing to send out to your guests.  With everyone having busier schedules these days, giving your guests a heads up will ensure all your loved ones will be there.  If you are however having your wedding on a holiday weekend or in the summer, you will defiantly want to think about sending these out.

Normally the Save the Date Card will just state the basics, your names, the date of the wedding and letting your guests know that invitations are to follow.  You can save time by ordering these with your invitation designer, then you can incorporate the same colours.

Other ideas that can be used, are using magnets with your information on it or postcards. Either way it gets your wedding date out there to all your guests.
